It all started in 2013.
I read The Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson, and I was entranced by World’s Fairs. I decided to read books about various World’s Fairs for the rest of the year as part of my reading queue. (For the record, I think we’re due for another World’s Fair.)
Around the same time . . .
I read Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. Obviously, the novel is ridiculously compelling, but, beyond that, Bradbury has a way with words that is just on another level. So I decided to read a bunch of Bradbury that year as well.
Voila!
A fiction and non-fiction theme for the year! And I haven’t looked back. This has been a fun habit to cultivate that feeds my love of learning and creates a challenge to find books in each theme over the course of the year. My goal is at least half a dozen in each theme, but I usually exceed that.

Rule number one: Once a theme, always a theme.
